Central Coast Modern

This modern home was created by remodeling a traditional 1970s Spanish style bungalow on a modest budget, and represents the ideal merger of Central Coast outdoor and indoor living. The house was completely re-stuccoed with smooth Santa Barbara style stucco. The inside was essentially gutted and rebuilt creating an open living/dining/kitchen space designed to "not look like a kitchen."  Kitchen cabinets are covered with Italian laminate, the island melds a custom-designed dining table that seats six comfortably with the stainless steel coujter-top. Cabinets were designed with special inserts to hold dishes and utensils to minimize clutter.  New windows and sliding doors were added throughout to create a smooth flow between indoors and outdoors. Every room opens onto its own  outdoor space, each with its own custom-designed water feature. The house was designed to accommodate the owners' special collection of art and collectible objects. The home is furnished with an eclectic collection of the owners' special mid-century pieces, new items and items found by shopping antique and consignment stores during construction. Of note is the use of the owners' collection of antique apothecary jars and original drawings. The antique Two French baguette bakery paddles found in a local consignment store were custom mounted to accent the kitchen wall with its large window added to frame the view of the distant hills, adding to the feeling of openness.  The back yard has a complete outdoor kitchen with a custom-designed table, an 8 foot fire pit an outdoor couch, and a Bullfrog hot-tub/spa that overlooks open space filled with mature oak trees. The house was completely insulated and refitted with modern smart- lighting throughout, Cedar on the living room ceiling, entry-way and bedroom walls blends with cedar cladding on outdoor walls. Low voltage lighting illuminates the landscaping. The house was also equipped with solar panels. "Before" photos appear at the end of uploaded photos.

Righetti Ranch San Luis Obispo New Home

A couple bought a new home in the Righetti Ranch Community of San Luis Obispo. The home has a beautiful view looking over San Luis Obispo and the distant mountains, but was unfinished. In this project involved picking everything from new furniture to new art-work that would integrate well with the home-owners existing personal items. 

DTSLO New Condominium

This project involved the complete interior design of a beautiful, newly-built three-story condominium in downtown San Luis Obispo, CA. The design is composed of antique, traditional and modern furnishings and accessories chosen to show-case and blend with the owners' significant collection of art from around the world. Functionality was a key factor in the design as well as taking advantage of the beautiful hills visible in all directions. (Work in progress: The project also involves a separate ADU, and a rooftop deck being designed for full out-door living with a hot tub, custom dining table that seats six, comfortable all-weather couches, and chairs, a fire pit and  full outdoor kitchen.  Landscaping of the deck includes drip irrigation of planters and beautiful plants for low-maintenance care.) 

Country Club Renovation

This project involved the redesign of exterior and interior spaces for a multi-story  home in the rolling hills of California’s central coast wine country. The exterior got fresh paint and fixtures.  The interior was updated with an elegant modern design that provides a warm, welcoming space for a large extended family. It capitalizes on expansive views from many rooms to create an inviting blending of the outside landscape with the inside,  and was structured to maximize together-time for the family with a large game room, and an inviting living /kitchen/dining area . The primary suite includes a custom-built bed crafted from walnut.  A large outdoor kitchen and comfortable patios were designed for enjoying the views and warm summer evenings.

Trilogy Landscape and Outdoor Kitchen

Landscaping and outdoor living space designed for a newly constructed home. The overall goal was to provide a comfortable, drought-tolerant landscape with a Mediterranean ambiance.  Succulents provide a large variety of textures and colors to add visual appeal and interest to the landscape. Olive trees provide a definitive Mediterranean look. The outdoor living space includes seating areas, a fire pit, water features, and a large outdoor kitchen.

California Central Coast Patio

A young couple purchased their first home, a town-house on the California Central Coast. They wanted to create a functional, elegant and inspirational space out of the current overgrown and chaotic patio. This entailed a complete make-over of the patio including new hardscape, with built-in benches, planters, and an outdoor fireplace. A grill, umbrella, and a dining table crafted from an antique table, with new plantings to create privacy and elegance finished the project.

This small space was designed for single person who wants compact, elegant living space on California's central coast. It is furnished for a simple life-style incorporating Italian-designed cabinets, a bath with walk-in shower and washer and dryer, and a sleeping loft. The couch also makes a bed and the coffee table unfolds to become a dining table. There is a furnished patio complete with a fire pit.

San Luis Obispo, CA. Modern loft, living compound

A modern loft/living compound designed and built by Mike Rogers represents the use of design elements to create efficient and elegant living in a small space. The design uses effective indoor/outdoor design to create a sense of spaciousness. The main building was constructed from the ground up, while the existing garage was divided to provide office space and a dining room with attractive built-in storage. The outdoor space included both a hot tub/jspai and a fire pit surrounded by a seating area. Landscaping was kept simple using a variety of bamboo types, including  oldhamii (giant bamboo) around the perimeter to provide privacy.

Mid-Century Among the Oaks Condo

This project represents the complete re-design of a lovely mid-century modern home in a serene setting among native oak trees.The design was created to take advantage of the mature oaks visible from every room. The home is two stories with a small loft between the two floors. A new glass stair railing was added along with a custom re-design of the fireplace to give it a bold presence in the primary living space.  The project involved bringing new furniture, artwork and surfaces into the home. New art was integrated into the owners' existing collection. A tile walk-in shower was added to the primary bathroom. A Murphy bed was added to provide additional guest sleeping space. A small loft between the two floors was redesigned to provide a comfortable space for quiet enjoyment or reading. Custom wood bookshelves were added. A new midcentury table and chairs along with a new chandelier, and new art creates a whole new dining space.  A custom "playful" and colorful chandelier helped to create a warm welcoming entry space.
